Windsor VT
JUNIPER HILL INN - WINDSOR VERMONT - This romantic inn is
tucked atop it's own private mountain - set back into the woods
along a curving road. So private, you can't even see the Inn
until you are there. The picturesque setting, the charm and
beauty of the rooms, and the excellent Innkeepers make this the
perfect romantic retreat.
WINDSOR, VT - Windsor is a small, historic town in
Southern Vermont, set along the banks of the Connecticut River
and below Mt. Ascutney. This is the birthplace of Vermont -
where the state's Constitution was signed in 1777 carving out a
new State from Northern New York and New Hampshire.
The Juniper Hill Inn
We drove through Woodstock, turned right towards Windsor, and
towards
The Juniper Hill Inn. Day was turning to dusk, as we buzzed
the doorbell to announce our arrival. We were quickly checked in
and on our way to Room #4 - a beautiful deluxe corner room at
the end of a long hallway. As we opened the door, a CD was
softly playing music, and the room was just perfect. A lovely
sitting area with wood-burning fireplace was to the left, a
4-poster bed was in the center, flanked by windows offering
wonderful views of the property. Roses on an old writing desk,
wine chilling in a crock on the antique dresser, the sherry by
the fireplace...Everything created a mood of rest, relaxation
and romance - just what we needed to celebrate our 20th
Anniversary in style!

It was late - and we were hungry! On the advice of Susanne,
we decided to try the Skunk Hollow Tavern. As we drove down the
driveway in the early evening light, three deer trotted across
the driveway in front of us. Another mood setting moment -
courtesy of nature!
On
to the Tavern...What a wonderful place! The atmosphere is
casual. The downstairs is a social, pub atmosphere - long tables
mixed with smaller tables all packed together on wooden floors,
with music playing and general good vibes. We asked to eat
upstairs. It's a little quieter and the best part is - there is
no electricity in the dining room! You eat entirely by
candlelight! With the pub sounds downstairs and the colonial
surroundings upstairs - you feel practically transported to
another time. No matter whether you eat downstairs or upstairs -
you can choose from basic pub fare or an elegant 4-course meal.
They have numerous wines by the bottle or by the glass to choose
from, many at reasonable prices. As it was our anniversary, we
splurged on the nicer menu options - but were pleasantly
surprised to discover that dinner for two, with appetizers, main
course, wine, coffee and two large desserts that we couldn't
finish was a reasonable $79 plus taxes and tip! Not bad for a
romantic and delicious meal by candlelight! We will definitely
find our way to Skunk Hollow Tavern again!
Returning
to Juniper Hill Inn, we built a lovely fire in the fireplace,
lit the candle, turned off the lights, and sipped an after
dinner sherry. Thoughts of business and family were forgotten as
we relaxed and reconnected. The Inn is so quiet and peaceful at
night - the only sounds were the crackling of the logs in the
fireplace and the occasional sound of water running along the
pipes. To me, THIS is how a room at an Inn should be - No TV...
No Phones...No High Speed Internet... No Jacuzzi in the corner.
Just firelight, the ambiance of a comfortable room in a lovely
old home, and good conversation with the one you love.
